Michael Phillips got the weathering looking perfect on his 1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18C Hornet - Winder 400.  Michael added resin detailing and aftermarket decals and a weapons load with drop tanks.  I love the markings on this jet.
Laurent 'angus' Beauvais is here with a real beauty and a bit different from his usual models.  This is his 1/48 Eduard Albatros D V finished in some great looking camo and fuselage artwork.  It's great to see these WW1 fighters on ARC 100 years after that horrific conflict.

Piotr Dmitruk is here with a stunning 1/72 Scratch built PZL- 106AR Kruk.  This was originally scratchbuilt by the famous polish modeller Henryk Hemke and expertly restored by Piotr Dmitruk.  I love the look of this PZL- 106AR Kruk.

Thomas Brückelt is here with another of his late war wonder aircraft.  This is his amazing 1/72 Airmodel Products - Blohm & Voss BV P.209.02 with quite a bit of added detailing and finished in a what-if night fighter paint scheme.  This is one cool looking jet.
Gerd Wilcken is here with a very cool Swedish jet.  This is his 1/72 Heller Saab S29C (Reconnaissance) Tunnan wearing UN markings for a UN mission.  Gerd tells the history of this jet and the build process.  It looks excellent Gerd.

Dragan Cvetic is here with his very tiny but excellent looking 1/144 Eduard MiG-21bis.  Dragan finished this MiG in Finnish markings with a cool looking green/brown camo scheme.

Fabio Taira did an amazing job super detailing his 1/32 Tamiya F-14A Tomcat VF-41 Black Aces.  Fabio used a variety of aftermarket sets on the cockpit and exterior and finished all off as a jet from OEF.  This is one very sweet F-14.
Pavel Maksimov is here with another of his Ju-87 masterpieces.  This is his 1/32 Hasegawa Junkers 87 D5 that was detailed with quite a few resin parts and then finished with an amazing weathered winter camo scheme.  Enjoy the detailing and check out his other Ju-87's here on ARC.

Michael Hickey is here with something very special today.  This is his 1/48 Academy F-4B Phantom II in the colorful markings of VF-51 “Screaming Eagles”.  Michael did an exceptional job finishing and weathering his Phantom.  I love the markings on this jet.

Mike Muth joins us today with his beautifully done 1/48 Eduard Fokker Triplane.  Mike goes into very helpful detail about building his triplane and the results look excellent.  This one is a beauty.

Dragan Cvetic is here with 2 very special Drakens.  This is his 1/72 Hasegawa J-35 Draken double build that include a jet from Finland and another from Austria.  Dragan added scratchbuilt detail to the cockpit and added pitot tubes before giving them excellent paint schemes with weathering.

Brazil Republic Day

Alvaro Troncoso Gil (Brujo) is here from Chile to mark the Brazil Republic Day with his 1/48 Monogram AH-2 Sabre (MI 35-M4).  Alvaro did plenty of extra work on this classic kit including scratchbuilding as you will see in his article.  I love it.
Sertac Bayar is here with another of his big stunning Turkish Phantoms.  This is his 1/32 Revell F-4E Phantom II with added detailing from a variety of resin parts and then given a flawless paint job in a great looking camo scheme.  Beautifully done Sertac.

  • 3 days after the armistice, fighting ends in the East African theater when General von Lettow-Vorbeck agrees a cease-fire on hearing of Germany's surrender.  Details

Straker65 added a resin cockpit and some little improvements on landing gear struts 1/72 Hobby Boss LIM-1 (MiG-15bis).  This little jet was then given a fully weathered baremetal finish and Polish markings.  It's a neat looking jet.
Gerd Wilckenis here with his cool looking 1/144 BPK Model Pilatus PC-6/B2-H4 Turbo Porter in the markings for a Spanish parachute school.  Gerd opened the door and added additional innterior detailing as well as other detailing.  A very cool build Gerd and impressive detail for 1/144 scale.

Sertac Bayar has done an impressive job building and finishing his 1/32 Tamiya F-4E Phantom II.  Sertac finished his Phantom as a Turkish interceptor in an excellent looking camo scheme.
David C S Teo is here with a very special 1/144 Revell 747-400 in Thai Airways livery.  The artwork on this Jumbo jet is for the Royal Thailand Barge which is classic Thai artwork.  I love the look of this airliner.

Dragan Cvetic has done some amazing painting and weathering on his 1/72 Trumpeter MiG-29UB.  Dragan did quite a bit of scratchbuilt detailing in the cockpit as well with very good results.  He then finished it in Yugoslav markings and a great looking camo scheme.
Thomas Brückelt  is here with a very interesting late war German fighter design that was powered by coal.  This is his 1/72 Anigrand Lippisch P.13b with added scratchbuilding and cockpit detailing and finished in a unique looking camo.  I love these rare aircraft that Thomas features on ARC.

  Armistice Day / Veterans Day / Remembrance Day

Only one model gallery relating to WW1 was sent in for this update, so only one model will appear, a German Triplane.  I have included quite a few items below relating to the end of the 14 -18 War, The Great War, The War To End All Wars, World War One or WW1.  

A somber day indeed, even 100 years later.  All countries paid a horrible price for this war in human terms.  France lost a whole generation of young men and I can't help but feel sad for all the young French girls that might not have found a man to marry in that Generation that was Lost.  Many Empires fell after WW1 and more Empires were critically wounded and fell later after WW2.  WW1 lead to WW2 and with the collapse of Empires after WW2, many colonial countries gained their independence.  We still feel the ripples through time from this great conflict 100 years ago with poorly drawn lines on maps leading to further conflicts etc.  And it all was started by one young Serbian student with a gun.....just the actions of one individual set the spark for all this painful history to unfold over the past 100 years.  But that one student wasn't to blame, societies had moved in conflicting directions leading to tensions and the eventual conflict.  Sadly even today leaders move in conflicting directions putting their national greed ahead of the good of humanity.  Sadly we have learned little in 100 years.

John McCrae

John McCrae's grave
His words are called to mind every year on 11 November

Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) was a Canadian poet, physician, author, artist and soldier during World War I, and a surgeon during the Second Battle of Ypres, in Belgium. He is best known for writing the famous war memorial poem "In Flanders Fields". McCrae died of pneumonia near the end of the war.

This is a colourised version of a sepia portrait of him taken in 1916.

A collection of his poetry, In Flanders Fields and Other Poems (1918), was published after his death.

Today, the poppy – the internationally recognized symbol of Remembrance Day – owes its significance to McCrae’s poem, written, the Canadian War Museum notes, while sitting on the back step of an ambulance near his medical aid post. "In the field around him, crosses marked the graves of dead soldiers, including those of (his best friend Alexis) Helmer and other Canadians killed the previous day… Poppies grew in the area at the time and McCrae’s own notes refer to birds singing despite the noise of battle."

  Last American Soldier to die in WW1

Henry Nicholas John Gunther (June 6, 1895 – November 11, 1918) was an American soldier and the last soldier of any of the belligerents to be killed during World War I. He was killed at 10:59 a.m., one minute before the Armistice was to take effect at 11 a.m.
  Last French Soldier to die in WW1

Augustin-Joseph Victorin Trébuchon (30 May 1878 – 11 November 1918) was the last French soldier killed during World War I. He was shot 15 minutes before the Armistice came into effect, at 10.45am on 11 November 1918. The French Army, embarrassed to have sent men into battle after the armistice with the Germans had been signed, recorded the date of his death as earlier by one day.
  Last British Empire Soldier to die in WW1

George Lawrence Price. Private George Lawrence Price (Regimental Number: 256265) (December 15, 1892 – November 11, 1918) was a Canadian soldier. He is traditionally recognized as the last soldier of the British Empire to be killed during the First World War.

George Edwin Ellison (10 August 1878 – 11 November 1918) was the last British soldier to be killed in action during the First World War. He died at 09:30 am (90 minutes before the armistice came into effect) while on a patrol on the outskirts of Mons, Belgium.
  Last German Soldier to die in WW1

The final German soldier killed was a Lt Erwin Alexander Thomä who was shot by American troops who had not heard of the ceasefire, when he walked towards them to tell them they could billet in the buildings his men had been using as they had vacated it. A very sad story, and as far as I know the final loss of the war.

He entered the army of the Kingdom of Württemberg as a volunteer on 7th April 1915 and came to the Ulanen-Regiment "König Karl" (1. Württembergisches) Nr. 19.On 30th July 1915 he came to the 4th Eskadron of the Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 19 and went into the field.
On 1st February 1917 he came to 2nd Eskadron of the Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 19.
During the war he saw service at the Western and the Italian front.
He was killed 11th November 1918 by an infantery bullet at Inor near Stenay (France)
His body was returned to Germany and reburied in 1923. Sadly his grave has no marker.

Alvaro Troncoso Gil (Brujo) starts today with his good looking 1/48 Esci F-4J Phantom II.  This classic kit was finished in VMFA 115 Silver Eagles markings using Hasegawa decals. 
Klaasjan Schuuring has done an amazing job on his big 1/32 Trumpeter Messerschmitt Me262 A-1a.  Klaasjan opened up the engine covers to show off those revolutionary early jet engines.  His painting and subtle weathering brings his 262 to life.

Greece Hellenic Air Force Day

Thomas Brückelt has done a wonderful job on his two 1/144 F-RSIN Falcon 20.  Thomas did some scratchbuilding to improve his 2 models and finished them off with custom made decals.  One of his models was built for a friend that was a pilot that flew the Falcon 20.
Carl Jarosz is here with his sharp looking 1/48 Academy T-33A Trainer.  Carl dressed up the cockpit with seat belts and finished his Shooting Star with subtle weathering and some great looking tail markings.  Beautiful work Carl.

Michael Phillips has done a stellar job on his in-flight 1/48 Special Hobby AJ 37 Viggen - Thor's Bolt.  Michael chose one of the most interesting camo schemes and further enhanced it with a subtle weathering job.  His model looks spectacular in it's in-flight mode complete with weapons load.   I love the look of this Viggen and it's display stand.
Shawn “phantom” Weiler has done an impressive job on his My second CH-149 Cormorant.  Shawn used the Airfix EH-101 with the Belcher Bits conversion and a fair bit of skill to pull it all together into the beauty you see here today.

Alvaro Troncoso Gil (Brujo) has dome some first class weathering on his 1/48 Italeri F-4J Phantom II.  Alvaro used Aero Master decals for the markings.  This is a classic kit that in the hands of a skilled modeller, builds into a great looking model and you will see in Alvaro's photos.
Orlando Sucre Rosales joins us from Venezuela with his classic 1/72 Matchbox Bell AH-1G Cobra.  Orlando built this kit long ago and decided to refinish it recently.  I am pleased to see Orlando back on ARC, the economic problems and hyper-inflation in his country have disrupted his model building.  He explains some of this in his article, which is quite interesting to read about. Welcome back Orlando.

Alvaro Troncoso Gil (Brujo) has done a perfect job building his 1/48 Tamiya Douglas A-1H Skyraider O.O.B.  The paint work and weathering is fantastic as you will see in his photos.  I love the classic Skyraider exhaust stains on this model.
Thomas Brückelt is here with the first of this plane type on ARC.  This is the early Russian rocket powered jet made with the 1/72 Amodel MiG I-270 kit.  Thomas did quite a bit of detailing on this little jet as you will see in his article.

Waldek Pupar has done an impressive job on the very complicated camo scheme on his 1/72 Dragon He-219A-0 UHU.  This He-219 is equipped with radar antennas and is finished with full weathering.  Beautiful work Waldek.
