Here are some photos
of my Hampden. The model was built straight out-of-the-box, and is
finished to represent a 106 Squadron machine, X3154 'A'.
The kit went
together pretty well, considering its age. I only had to undertake a
little filling around the wing-fuselage joins, and around the bomb bay. At the
time of building (about 5 years ago) I had yet to discover "Falcon"
canopies - the transparencies supplied with the kit do, I think, let the model
down somewhat. One day, I will replace them.
Despite its age, the model was great fun to build!
The model is
brush-painted, using Humbrol enamels. Decals are from a mix of aftermarket
sources, and are applied over a coat of Precision Paints gloss varnish, and
sealed with a coat of satin varnish from the same manufacturer.

On 21
December 1940, while on a night navigation exercise with other aircraft from the
Squadron, Hampden X3154 flew into snow-covered high ground in the Derbyshire
Peak District, killing all 4 on board. To this day, small pieces of
wreckage can be seen at the site.
