This is
my Monogram 1/48 P-51D, built straight out of the box.
I used Testors’ paints for the finish; silver for the metallic
areas, flat black and white for the stripes, and yellow for the cowling.
All colors were airbrushed on.

I built
the model a number of years ago and recently added some weathering to it.
I experimented with pastels for the first time and used them for the gun
and exhaust stains as well as for applying
"blow-back” stains from some of the panels and the flaps. An Ivory
Black oil wash was applied in the wheel well areas (wells, inside of bay doors,
struts, hubs) and fluid streaks from the wheel wells are a mix of Gunze
Sangyo Oil and Soot. Paint chipping
was done by applying Testors Silver with a small brush.
The tires were drybrushed with Humbrol Panzer Gray.
The
kit decals were used, although they didn't include any kill markings for
the port canopy frame. However, thanks to
a kind modeler who saw my recent post on ARC's Forum, I was able to obtain the decal
for these markings, which came from the Superscale sheet. This
was a nice kit for the price, with the figure being nicely detailed as well.

The
model depicts “Detroit Miss”, flown by 1st Lt. Urban Drew of the 351st
Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group, 8th Air Force, in 1944.
Lt. Drew ended World War II with six aerial victories.
Happy
Modeling!
