US Navy and the US Marines, 17 of the civilian DC-9s of the 30s and 40s series
were procured as military transport aircraft and christened the C-9B Skytrain
II.

The kit
comes from Fly and should probably be the better alternative to Airfix. In any
case, I had bought this kit cheaply and should represent a change from the usual
military jets. Unfortunately, this kit does not come with any transparent parts.
So the windows are shown as decals. What the manufacturer did not take into
account, however, is that this Navy version has a large cargo door on the side.
So this had to be re-engraved. I also noticed too late that the upper fin on the
vertical stabilizer was stretched longer in the original. So it stayed with me
in the civil version. Otherwise it is a simple kit with few parts and good
quality.

The white was
painted with Revell 301, the rest with Vallejo. The engravings were subtly
emphasized.
