1/48 Hawk TV-2

This is the 1/48 Hawk kit of the TV-2. A naval version of the Air Force T-33. As far as I know this plane was not carrier rated. Lockheed later built the T2V-1 Seastar based on the T-33 which was carrier rated. This kit dates back to 1959. It has moveable features like the landing gear and canopy, something I did not use.

There is very little detail in this kit. The cockpit is bare and there are no landing gear wells. Like a lot of detail in this kit, the parts are very thick, so I replaced all the LG doors and tank fins with plastic card. I also sanded all the oversized rivets, raised panel lines and re-drew the panel lines with a pencil.

I really liked the box top art. That's the reason I built this model. Unfortunately, the decals provided do not allow to build the kit as shown. The instructions have a different color scheme which in reality is meaningless since the decals, being over 40 years old, were unusable.

Needless to say I can't recommend this kit. I built it over a weekend and as a "curbside" model it works. I am a big Navy trainer buff so I had to have this model in my collection.
